Victory Induced Euphoria

Hey Friends,
I know it's been a few days, but I've been really lazy!
A lot of questioning my entire life, FUN!
But today was alright... that's not true, I still question why I don't work harder, or have more money, or write more, or keep up with deadlines, or try.
Eh, I guess you do what you want and in the end suffer the consequences.
The point is I woke up, and had b-fast. I laid on the couch with Teh Cute Girlfriend for a long time, before we decided to go to the coffee shop, followed by a trip to The Op Shop Rochester, a place of vintage clothing!
But today was special, they had a clothing swap (starting at 5pm, see, I've done nothing). It was really cool, people brought random clothes, and we took random clothes, and it was a gay old time!
Then we came home and I made up some grilled cheese and tomato soup. (but fancy bread, cheese, and soup)
Then we watched Teen Titans Go! until right now.
See, I can't get myself to do things. My brain feels dead. Obligations seem to not matter... it's rough. Maybe that burnout article was right, but like the mighty Ephyra! Forever onward!

PAULINA IS MINE!!

HI!
I'M VERY EXCITED!
I GOT PAULINA EVERYBODY!
That was the worst Spirit to get. I of course got it using my immeasurable talent and skill... jk it was luck, peach killed herself while I wasn't looking. :) *shrug emoji*

Other than that, I wrote a little bit. LT invited me over, but we were gonna be homebodies. Except for wanting to dig out our car. We got all dolled up to dig out our car, but there was no shovel. The apartment said that each building would have a shovel. So, like last year, we headed down to release our car from its icy prison, but lo and behold, there was no shovel. There was a man there at first, that had a shovel, but when we returned, he was gone. Did he take the apartment shovel. Probably not, but I'm suspicious of him, 'cause I'm awful. :)
So I guess we'll just have to go back upstairs and play Super Smash Bros Ulimate. Still Fun.
I wrote a little bit, my approach Aim 1 is coming along terribly, I presume. I just can't seem to find the energy or motivation to do the thing. I really really just want to stop doing everything, but I can't :(
Maybe I'm depressed, but I'm not particularly sad, well at least not more than usual. But I don't feel like doing things. I just want to sit at home and play nintendo and D&D. The Brainery hasn't got back to me about teaching an Intro to D&D class, so I assume that I wasn't among "The Chosen".
I received an e-mail from the teacher of the Improv classes (from a mailing list). That had some other classes and things available. Maybe I should do that... or go back to Swing, I think it's been long enough that I have forgotten my bad habit... Yep, see, I wanna do everything but work a job :(
If it doesn't spark joy, is it worth keeping?

Grinding...coffee?

Hello friends,
Welcome to this the first of two single shots, same time, kinda, just one after the other,
I like commas.
The point is! I woke up. SNOWMAGEDDON 2019!
It's fine.
There was about 16" of snow. It was snowing all day.
The roads are still white. Where them plows at?
We enjoyed the day, just cuddling and keeping warm.
We did go outside.
I wanted to livestream Snowmageddon 2019.
My phone was being a piece of junk. On the plus side, it looks as though I was doing some sweet editing techniques. (but really it was just losing signal :) Oh, it also died within the 15 minutes that we were outside. It went from like 57% to dead. Teh Cute Girlfriend and I put our phones in rice, just in case though.

Ah, something I forgot to mention, I tried to get a quote on the domain raulrodriguez.com, it was 2300 dollars. I'm not paying more than $75 for that domain name, considering that it was at auction for $65, but that squatting company swooped in at the last minute to buy it to upcharge anyone that wants it. Squatting is probably ridiculously lucrative.

Anywhays. That was it for Saturday. I beat Galeem in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, that was fun. That's aboot all I can recall.

Whew!

Well, that was a few days between blags, but it was going to be a bit. Doing a bit of stuff.
But I vowed upon my oath of vengeance that I would keep up. and so I shall.
Please ignore the inconsistencies of my writing... nah, roast me for it.
Thursday:
Work, writing. LT an I played some Arkham LCG, we did an interesting thing. It was a deck build using Ythian Observers. We tried to get them through Return to the Night of the Zealot. We made it to the second scenario before I died out. I pulled 3 really bad treacheries :(
Let's see, the Thursday show, the opening show... went awful. It was worse than the previous night. The conductor came up and asked if I "adjusted any settings on the board", 'cause it was "working perfectly during the preview" that morning. I don't think she understood how sound works. She also asked if I could do anything to turn up some of the actors. I know what I'm doing, and I know when the sound's messed up, and I know when someone gives me a mic check that fails to even slightly resemble their actual performance. UGH.
Friday:
LT and I played Keyforge (work, etc. first).
For the second show, it was a little better, but it was still really rough. The conductor sent a random teacher to WATCH me do sound. I don't know what they expected.
Saturday:
I went out for the morning show at 1230. The roads were pretty rough, but I drove nice and slow. The show went fine. But apparently they received an e-mail complaining about the sound. The director stood by the sound booth this time... He doesn't give af about it, so he's fine back there. I think he's at least smart enough to realize that the job is difficult even with decent equipment, let alone this really crappy stuff. Oh, and some mom complained that the person putting mics on the girls was a guy. They didn't seem to mind that I put mics on the boys, but girls... no way. So the stage manager had even more work. I was glad to be done with this mess. I don't think I'll ever do that show again. Heck, I don't even really wanna do sound stuff. This is why I stopped doing sound things, I like doing a good job. If I don't do a good job, I hate it. Especially when I get flak from people that don't know what they're talking about. There were ways to approach me in which I would have been fine, but instead, they talked to me like I was stupid and talked behind my back, those people were awful :/

But it's over, so I spent the rest of the day relaxing with Teh Cute Girlfriend! Waiting out the snow storm :)

Sounding Off

Hey Friends!
I know, I know, I also hate not capitalizing the first word of sentences.
But you've got to admit, it does look cool. I once read that pro crossword people use lower case so that they can write quicker. I often wonder if they are brain geniouses.
Woke up. ate. showered. I got a text from the person in charge of the show I ran last Friday. The cords I took were theirs. I was afraid they'd ask me to take them back to Farmington (30 min away), but luckily they were going to be in Rochester, so we could exchange the cords here :)
I went over to LT's house to pick up the cables. While there, we played some Smash Brothers. (I'm still all about that Smash). When the designated time arrived, I went to meet the person at the salad bar at Wegmans.
They texted 8 minutes before the meeting time to say they were running late and that we should meet in the parking lot farthest from the store. When they showed up it was a cute exchange. They in hushed tones asked, "You got the stuff", as though we were doing something illicit. After the exchange and a laugh, we parted ways and I went home. I ate. Then I headed off to the sound gig.
The sound gig was rough. They're using an analog board with no compressor, so peaking is super probable. The mics they're using for their faces are hair mics, so they're designed to pick up more sound. The kids don't modulate their volume well, songs are random. Some rechargeable batteries don't hold a charge, so some mics turned off in Act II. The body packs are super easily muted. The handheld mics are being used at a foot away, but aren't that type of mic. Yep. Fun. It's a challenge.
Got feedback about 4 times. But at least it was over at 830pm. So I got home at 915pm-ish. I was the last person out.
That was it for the night! Hopefully tomorrow goes better ://

Filed Day

hey friends,
no, I didn't forget about you, I was just soooooo tired :)
monday morning, I got up, ate a Siggi's yogurt for b-fast, and went to work.
pretty easy so far.
i worked on the Aim I Approach section of my proposal.
i also told my boss about signing up for the vestibular research meeting.
i wasn't sure what all to sign up for, so I signed up for everything.
he said, "it's free, why wouldn't you?"
words of wisdom.

after typing all day, it was time for my writing group meeting.
they decimated my Significance section.
i was hoping that it was perfect, and that we would have time to check my Specific Aims section too.
but we spent a lot of time discussing how I was dumb :( jk

after writing group, i went home and ate some quick hummus.
why?!?!
because we (Teh Cute Girlfriend and I)  have an Intro to Woodworking class at the Rochester Makerspace!
the person in charge of the class, Rick Spencer, was fantastic.

he taught us about wood and showed us how to be safe!
we learned about and how to use the Table Saw, Joiner, Planer, Sander, Band Saw, and the Drill Press!
it was super cool! our cars turned out really great!
link to My Car.
i'm excited to keep on making stuff! next up? a game table?!?

Baking Roads

Hey friends!
So to the second post of the day. Honestly, I forgot all about teh blog. But I remembered now :)
Plus I promised to keep up with this thing this time (yes, I know I always do and then mass wipe my history).
The point is I woke up! earlier than I wanted to, but not terribly early.
I ate b-fast and said goodbye to Teh Cute Girlfriend.
I had an appointment! At a school where I'm doing a sound gig.
Well, technically I'm only supposed to supervise the kids who are supposed to run sound. LT came with me to check out the setup the first day. The problem was... all of the kids that normally do the sound decided not to do it this year. So, they wanted us to run the show. Unfortunately, that wasn't the agreement. So we renegotiated and came to an agreement. The setup at this place was pretty not great. It's not that it was bad, but the last times that they ran shows it was done at other schools with much better equipment. Some of the body packs were wrecked, some of the batteries didn't work, and two body packs and two handhelds shared receivers. Well, since we were going to have to run the show, we were given a script. We marked up the soundboard (analog, ugh) and started marking up the script. We left a little bit later, 'cause we can go through the script at home.
When I got home, I ate a little, and hung out with Teh Cute Girlfriend a little. Then we took off 'cause she had to pick up her artwork from the Rochester Contemporary Art Center. Plus, we wanted to go grocery-ing. We stopped by Wegman's and then to Wal-mart, 'cause we wanted earplugs and safety glasses (for our woodworking class tonight). We bought a chocolate donut and can of donut-holes and a tea beverage. We ate them in the car while driving. Teh Cute Girlfriend said that the chocolate covered donuts reminded her of her childhood. The powered donut-holes reminded me of my childhood, I always loved the powdered donut packs. :) Then to Costco... but it was closed, we missed it by 10 minutes :(
We finally went to pick up the artwork. Luckily we found a nearby parking spot. The lady who helped us get it down said some nice things about it and also handed us a million postcard thingies to give to friends.
After that, we went home, ate, watched some Teen Titans Go! I started a little bit of I Love You, America by Sarah Silverman. nice, relaxy night.

Ketching Up

Hoy!
Saturday, finally a day in.
And so I spent it the way I like spending days... slacking. I slacked for most of the day. We watched tv all day and hung out.
That's it. :)

See you tomorrow!

Back in Blisness?

Howdy Amigos!
Woke up yesterday, ate some b-fast. Then I went to work! I think I went at about 930ish.
I took the car and parked at the local Starbucks-face. Why? 'cause I had to leave early to go work a sound gig. I worked on my proposal some more. Then I went downstairs to see my PI, but he wasn't there, so I assume that he had some cases to work (he's a real doctor). Which was unfortunate, I had some questions about registering for the vestibular research meeting that we wanted to go to. It had some options for a tour and days you wanted to go... so I wasn't sure what our plans were. Plus, I was gonna ask about accommodations. Well, since he wasn't there, I just signed up for everything and submitted my abstract. I didn't have to present a poster, but I think that my PI would want me to do one.
I left work a little early, so that I could go home, and say hi to Teh Cute Girlfriend, and eat before I needed to be at the show. Relaxing for a bit was nice. But soon enough, it was 315 and I needed to be on my way. The event was in Farmington, NY (about 30 min away) at Cobblestone Arts. It was a nice little place built by a wife and husband team, to introduce art to the differently abled community. Luckily, LT went the day before and setup up the system, so all I had to do was run it. The dress rehearsal went rather poorly on my end. But after some slight adjustments, I'm glad to say that the actual show went very well. (the kids during both were really good). After the performances ended, it was relatively easy to pack up and put everything away. The drive home was a little cold and long, but it was okay. I didn't want to leave LT's stuff in the car, but I couldn't take up the heavier item, 'cause our elevator is broken. Hopefully it'll all be alright, I'm pretty sure that the stuff has been left in cold cars before.

That was my day! How was yours?

Welcome to the End?

Hey Friends!

This morning, I woke up. The snow was crazy. I decided to go to a coffee shop today to work.
I went to the Starboo at Monroe this time... well, it's been the last few times. Luckily I was able to write my abstract for the Vestibular Research Meeting in Dayton. I sent it off to LT, he signed off on it. Then I sent it to my boss, he signed off on it. So I went to register and submit... But I had no idea that the registration process was gonna be confusing, so I figured I'd wait until Tomorrow when I could ask my boss.
After that, I worked on my proposal and made some more headway, but I still need a lot more to go. I bought another latte when I left. It was Starboo happy hour, so the latte was 50% off. I brought it home for Teh Cute Girlfriend, but she didn't feel like a dessert style coffee at the moment, so I drank it. I fought the nap :) I then went to play DnD!
Oridove the wild magic sorcerer helped out a bit. I forgot to do one wild magic surge, so I was a little sad when I realized it, but it was kinda for the best. Wild Magic tends to be unpredictable ;P
I did do a couple rolls to see what the effect would have been, they were actually pretty good, I would have either fired off magic missile or I would have restored my sorcery points. I also told our DM that I wouldn't be able to attend next week and that I wouldn't be able to regularly attend :(
There's just soo many things that are scheduled for Thursday, that I wanted the option to do those things.
That was my day, I went home and watched TV and ate and slept :)

Post-DM Blehs

Hey friendos!

Woke up.
Went to work.
Took the bus, Nice.
Worked on Abstract.
Boss walks in, scaring me.
We chat about conference and stuff.
LT come in to run today's experiments.
I catalog which subjects have done what.
Boss leaves work to wait for Big Buck Hunter.
LT leaves to wait for Big Buck Hunter to help carry.
I leave, figuring I'd write at a coffee shop, as I like to do.
There's drama with the bus, I become upset and call for a ride.
Teh Cute Girlfriend picks me up and we go get some gas at Costco.
When we went home, I made lunch, I didn't get to eat breakfast, ate a lot.
Then I just napped for a couple of hours (getting home took about two hours).
So I went to DnD when I woke up, but my throat is hoarse, so I couldn't DM today.
Luckily, they found room for all my players at other tables, plus, I got a chance to play.
After a brief (3 hour) adventure at White Plume Mountain, the night of gaming was over :(
I went home and Teh Cute Girlfriend and I ate and snuggled and watched some Flying Witch.
That was my day!!
Hope you liked it!
Tell me about yours!

Necklaces and Yigs

Hi Friends!

After a tasty morning b-fast, Teh Cute Girlfriend and I went to Main Street Arts in Clifton Springs, NY, to pick up a piece of art she submitted. The drive was pretty crazy, it was raining hard most of the way there. The way back wasn't too bad, it was still raining, but it has let up a little bit.

When we got back, we headed out to the local Starboo, so I could write. I remembered I needed to book a hotel for the ARO conference coming up. Unfortunately, there were no more available at the actual hotel, so I needed to get a room at the overflow hotel, which is .2 miles away. :( I need to decide whether to drive or fly still.  I worked on an abstract due next week. Was reminded that I needed to work on a poster for ARO, in addition to my proposal... :/

In the evening, we went back home, I alone went to LT's house. We were going to go to the FLGS (Friendly Local Gaming Store) and play a standalone Arkham: LCG scenarios (that's why we talked about the game so much yesterday). I was playing Lola Hayes (the actress), she's notoriously difficult to play, but I think my deck build was pretty good. The thing that wrecked me was THREE! extremely important token draws that were auto-fails... :( One of those stopped me from being able to play cards for a while. Another caused a delay of movement of two people, forcing the other players to come over to help, instead of completing the stage we were on. The last was an important attack, that would have let me help another player :(. But we all had fun, despite losing. And we played for a couple of hours, so not too bad :)

I got home, and I played a little more of Mario vs Rabbits: Kingdom Battle. Then We ate and watched some Teen Titans GO!

Lemme know your worst auto-fails :)

I Ate Mondays

Hi friends!

Building some brand recognition there. :)

Went to work in the early morn, for lab meeting, again, I missed the bus. I do not at all know the bus schedule for winter break, I also don't know when it's over, or how to walk.

Luckily, the visitor lot doesn't have a lot of people in it during the break, so I can park there. Yes, yes, that's the lot that I had to pay to park in last week, whatevs bro. I met, we went to work. LT is super into Arkham LCG, which is a good game, but it's surprising how hard he's into it. Of course, that's what I like about him, when he's into something, he's INTO it.
So I spent the day alternating between work and talking about the LCG. At 4 though, I had our writing group meeting. It's where a select few of us neuro grad BME students... of which there are only us few, meet up and critique each others' writing. As you can probably tell, I've learned nothing :/
After Writing Group, I went over to LT's house, he was hosting an acquaintance of mine (friend of his) and wanted to play some bored games. As seen on my Insta (@Raulrod00) we played Fallout (the boardgame). The new expansion recently came out and he hasn't gotten a chance to play it.
After the 4 hour play, we started Heroes of Terrinoth  (as you can tell LT is kind of an FFG Stan).
That went surprisingly poorly. :) Of course we (being seasoned game players) started with a hard scenario. Mistakes were made. I ended up going home at around midnight.

Luckily I avoided the falling of the freezing rain, but I did not avoid it's aftereffects. But, I took it slow, better to get home alive than without a car... or life. Well, that was my day, hope you had a great one too!

Traveling Far and Close

Hey Errbody!

I totally forgot about writing this yesterday, so now I don't remember what happened. That's not true.

We woke up and I made waffles! It's Sunday, Sundays are for Waffles. :)
After b-fast, we hung out for a little bit and I realized that it was The Feast of Fools (Jan 6th) and posted on the interwebs. No one cared or remembered. :( Whatever, I thought it was cool.

We headed off to Wegman's to refill Teh Cute Girlfriend's prescription, it was insanely busy. Afterwards, we headed to Costco to fill up on eggs and assorted knishes. I've never known knishes before our Costco membership, but I've since fallen in love. After Costco....

I went to Starbucks to write. Yes, it was boring, but I did do a decent amount of stuff. Unfortunately, they close at 8pm, so I couldn't do as much as I wanted. After I got home, we watched The Gifted on Hulu and I played some Arkham Horror LCG.

That was it for the day, thanks for reading about my non-adventures!

These Shoes Were Made For Walking

Woke up early this Saturday morning so that we could have breakfast and coffee... mmmm Creme Brulee flavor.

However, we were on a mission today. We needed to head out, why? 'Cause we were off to Ithaca!
Teh Cute Girlfriend has been wanting to check out the Women Empowered exhibit. After a couple hour drive, we got to the Human Ecology building at Cornell University.

The exhibition was super-cool! It had outfits worn by amazing women throughout the previous century. They have Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's iconic shoes. The have the Notorious RBG's Judge Collar. A WAVES uniform. A Karate GI worn during the Gay Games. The stories and lives attached to these outfits were inspiring.

Oh! and I think we helped rescue a doggo! See, a group of people approached us when we were leaving. They had found a large brown dog with a red leash. They asked if we were the owners, after telling them that we weren't, they told us they were going to the take the doggo to the police. After our walk towards the lake, when we came back we heard a man shouting for Dodger. We asked if he was looking for a large black dog, he said yes, so we told him that a group of four found him and was taking him to the police station. So hopefully the man and his dog were reunited.

After the adventure, we went to Ten Forward Cafe. It's a really cool place above a used book store in the Ithaca Commons. The best part is that every menu item is vegan! So order with confidence fellow vegetarians! I had a burrito with soy curls, mac and cheese, and cole slaw with a side spring salad with homemade ranch, it was super tasty! Teh Cute Girlfriend had some soy tacos, they're also tasty. After lunch, I had a Pineapple Mango Passion Fruit scone and Teh Cute Girlfriend had a Peach Crumble Muffin. They were both amazing!

We then picked up a few books from downstairs. I picked up Neurocomics and A People's History of American Empire they both seemed really interesting. We then checked out the local crafts store.

Finally, we came home. We're relaxing and enjoying resting.

ARTwalk

Hola senores y senoritas.

For today, I went to work in the morning and typitty-typed a bit. We went downstairs to fetch some free coffee (LT and I). We stumbled upon a potential faculty hire, so we couldn't talk our boss into getting us lunch. However, that didn't deter LT from going to our standard Friday spot... Guacamole in East Rochester followed by Silverball Saloon for pinball. We caught up to our boss... totally unexpectedly ;P.

After work, I hung out with Teh Cute Girlfriend for a little bit. She needed to go to the Rochester Contemporary Art Center (as seen on Buzzfeed), to talk about her work and life. Her talk wan't until 8pm, so we hung out checking out the other artist talks until then. After her talk, we had just a few minutes to go to the closing of Anna's Sketch Studio and Gallery. We got to say bye and pet the fluffy buns. If you want to catch the buns-face, it's on my Instagram @Raulrod00. After that and some Caramel Whiskey shots, we were ready to head out to The Yards. They were having an artist open house, and one of our favorite artist (Maria Victoria Savka) has as residency there. We also got to meet an artist named Molly Elizabeth (whose work was awesome). Then it was back home for a bit then blog. :)

Potted Plant

Had a Starboo workday today :)

It was a pretty nice writing day. I managed to fix most of my Specific Aims section, I do need to redo the rest of my proposal sections still, but most of that will be a rewrite of what's already there.
I tried to do some of that data analysis, but I forgot how I did the previous data, so I was confused for a while and then went back to writing.

After SB, I came home and hung out with Teh Cute Girlfriend for a bit before heading out to DnD.
This time as a player.

I play at Enlightened Minds Gaming. This session there were only 8 people there :) Ha! actually I'm impressed with our DM for dealing with so many folks. I transformed from a Tiefling that I think was a player last week... unfortunately, my Tiefling body source had stuck their arm inside a Mimic. After getting chewed on for a bit, I was turned into a potted plant by my Wild Magic Surge... I was cute but useless. Later on we fought a Mind Flayer, we probably could have killed it, but folks weren't attacking.... The Fog Cloud I cast around us probably didn't help.Wild Magic is fun. But we ended the night getting to level 5.

The rest of the night we just hung out and watched TV.

DnDecals

Hello Friends!

I'm typing this with my phone, so it's gonna be a short one :)

It was a little weird that when I was typing amigurumi was one of the suggested words. I haven't used that word in a bit. It's crocheting little figures! I also haven't crocheted in a while as well, so maybe this year I'll re-pickup crocheting and knitting. (Like blogging)

I went to work and typed some stuff. We talked with our subject about role playing games. Went to lunch with our boss and returned to finish off the day. I found out there's more data to analyze and that makes me happy :)

After work, I hung out with Teh Cute Girlfriend for a little while before I went to DM (Dungeon Master for DnD) at Millenium Games. Where I go every Wednesday to provide a fun classics storytelling environment for myself and my players :P
Today was fun. They stormed an island that was too strong for them. The ballista shots weren't warning enough... The fireball shooting cannons weren't warning enough... The alarms weren't warning enough... The multiple gargoyles weren't warning enough... Once forty soldiers shot forty arrows... did they finally start getting the hint. Unfortunately for them, the unnecessary fight took all night so they didn't earn much ACP, but they got to taste the closeness of death, so they did alright :)

After that, laundry!

Story over, I'm sleep-writing this :)

In With The Yig

From the depths of Yoth friends.

Hey!

When was the last time I did this huh? Probably yesterday. I literally almost forgot that this thing existed. Luckily, I am writing again today.

Yesterday I went to friend's house and we started a The Forgotten Age campaign for the Arkham Horror: LCG. If you've never heard of it, it's a card game in which you build a deck from a collection of cards. There are investigators that fulfill certain roles in the game with specific deck building requirements. The whole thing is a fun adventure in a Cthulhu mythos setting. I spent a lot of my daytime there.

For the evening, I went home and Teh Cute Girlfriend and I got ready for NYE!

Oh, before that!
We played Just Dance 2019! I think I'm getting better, but of course I lost mostly. The selection of songs is pretty good, and I might sign us up for Just Dance Unlimited (you get access to 400+ songs), but it's a subscription service, so that won't happen until it makes sense.

We went to The Spirit Room (Rochester). It's a bar started by a band of writer friends. It stands for inclusion and creativity and fun weirdos! But they had a great NYE party celebration! We arrived about 40 min. before the celebrations, and the bar was already full. Luckily there was some space on the stage, so we were able to just sit in basically the best seat in the house. The show consisted of a bunch of cool burlesque acts, including a story reading, a witch-y ceremony, and a small play. The friend I played game with came over to the bar too. It was a good time, we brought in the new year in style :) We stayed through a few songs before karaoke began and then headed home at about 1230. We tried to find some burgers or pizza, but both late night places were closed. So we settled on some homemade food and watching TV.

Long but nice night spent.

Victory Induced Euphoria

Hey Friends, I know it's been a few days, but I've been really lazy! A lot of questioning my entire life, FUN! But today was alri...
